COMMITTEE PURPOSE:

To monitor, advise and offer direction concerning matters of a technical nature involving standards, policy, code enforcement procedures, and any other related items affecting the structural building components industry and the manufacture and use of trusses.

To provide a business perspective on how industry technical activities will affect the structural building components industry and to develop practical engineering solutions to those business problems.

This committee will cooperate with and participate in efforts by the Truss Plate Institute and its Technical Advisory Committee, as well as any other code-writing or standards-setting organizations and make engineering and technical policy recommendations to the Board of Directors.

Engineering & Technology (E&T) Committee Roles & Responsibilities

  • Committee work that needs to be brought to the Board:
    • All industry policy changes. 
    • All new industry policies
  • Committee work that needs to be brought to the Treasurer:
    • All committee activities that add a new committee task that has not been budgeted for in the current fiscal year. 
  • Additional cost will be reviewed and approved/denied by the Executive Committee. 
  • Help bring forward ideas to assist in formulating or changing existing engineering and technical policy. 
  • Team up with/support staff to implement SBCA approved technical policy. 
  • Team up with/support staff to achieve SBCA engineering and technology goals and objectives. 
  • Cooperate with and participate in efforts by the Truss Plate Institute and its Technical Advisory Committee, as well as any other code-writing or standards-setting organizations. 
  • Communicate with SBCA staff on the technical needs in the market so that SBCA and TPI to avoid duplication of effort and so that SBCA and TPI are resource efficient.

Engineering & Technology Committee Chair Roles & Responsibilities

  • The key responsibilities are as follows: 
    • Talk to staff prior to each meeting to gain a strong working knowledge of the committee agenda 
    • Know what staff work has been done and what the staff plan is for existing tasks. 
    • Be a liaison between staff and the members of the committee. 
  • Help implement engineering and technical policy, goals and objectives by mentoring and supporting staff. 
  • Monitor, advise and offer direction on technical issues involving standards, policy, code enforcement procedures, and any related technical items affecting the structural building components industry and the manufacture and use of structural building components. 
  • Provide a business perspective on how industry technical activities will affect the structural building components industry and help develop practical engineering solutions to those business problems. 
  • Preside at all meetings of the E&T Committee. 
  • Report at Board meetings on the policy motions of the E&T Committee.
